Arc de Triomf

Barcelona: Arc de Triomf

On our various long walks around Barcelona, we wound up coming across the Arc de Triomf numerous times, as it is right in the centre of the city. There’s not too much to say about it, but it’s worth having a look at if you’re in the area, as it’s quite a prominent landmark…

Passeig de Lluís Companys

The Arc de Triomf is situated at the end of the Passeig de Lluís Companys, a wide tree-and-decorative-lamp-post-lined promenade leading from the Parc de la Ciutadella.

Passeig de Lluís Companys and Arc de Triomf

The Passeig de Lluís Companys seems to be a showing-off area for people with various modes of alternate wheeled transportation – we saw people on electric microscooters, hoverboards, single-wheeled skates (crazy-looking things I had never seen before), electric unicycles, and we even saw somebody on a penny farthing!

Passeig de Lluís Companys

The Arc de Triomf itself is a huge ‘triumphal arch’ (a huge decorative arch, originally built in Rome to commemorate significant events) built in 1988 as the main access gate for the Barcelona World Fair in that year.
