A couple of Fridays ago, my fiancé Alec and I went along on behalf of the Bournemouth Bloggers to Inn in the Park, a lovely recently refurbished pub near Branksome Dene Chine in Poole, to try their summer menu. We love the area, and we love food, so we were all over this!
The exterior of Inn in the Park is homely and inviting, and there is a seating area outside which would be lovely on warm summer nights. They serve a host of higher-end hearty and locally sourced pub food.
When we arrived, we were promptly shown to our table and ordered a bottle of red wine between us (which turned out to be amazing), happily sipping it whilst perusing the menu. Abi, the manager, kindly answered any questions we had about the menu and made some great recommendations about what to go for.
We both have a sweet tooth to be reckoned with, so decided to surpass a starter and go straight for a main meal and dessert.
I ordered a good ol’ British classic, the ‘fish of the day’, in a Wadworth 6X Gold beer batter and served with chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce. Some of the main meals have a choice of portion size; I chose the smaller portion of the fish, as I definitely wanted to make sure I would be able to fit dessert in.
The fish of the day was exactly what I was craving and I ate the entire plate (the ‘smaller’ size was, in my opinion, very generous). The chips were crispy on the outside and wonderfully soft on the inside, and the fish was covered in a delicious crispy batter. Paired with the tartare sauce, it was just perfect. The only thing I wasn’t a massive fan of was the mushy peas; I didn’t think they had much flavour.
After polishing off our mains, our dessert stomachs were well and truly activated. Alec ordered the ‘homemade chocolate fudge brownie’, with walnuts, chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream. I demanded to try it and it was divine; it was served warm, and was deliciously gooey and chocolatey in all the right places. The hazelnuts gave a nice crunch and ice cream with a brownie is just a must.
After finding it immensely hard to go for something different to cheesecake (my favourite dessert), I ordered the ‘sticky toffee pudding’, which was served warm with a glorious toffee sauce poured over the top, vanilla ice cream and a physalis fruit for garnish. I didn’t regret my choice; it was absolutely delicious, and I couldn’t get enough of the toffee sauce.
We left the Inn in the Park very happy, content and full of lovely food. The interior is light, spacious and comfortable, the staff were friendly and attentive, and we weren’t left waiting around for anything.
A gluten-free menu is offered for guests with allergies, and all desserts are vegetarian which is great, as I can now safely recommend the place to my vegetarian friends.
