Festive Afternoon Tea at Level8IGHT The Sky Bar

As soon as I saw that Level8IGHT The Sky Bar at The Hilton in Bournemouth was offering a ‘Festive Afternoon Tea’ over the Christmas period, I booked some places immediately as an early Christmas treat…

Level8IGHT The Sky Bar is on the eighth floor of The Hilton – in case you were wondering, that’s pretty high for Bournemouth! There is a fabulous view of the town from the panoramic windows.

First things first – the tea! I went for an Earl Grey, but there is an extensive choice of various other teas and coffees you can pick.

The afternoon tea stand was brought out so we could get a good look at the treats. A nice little touch that they add is to sprinkle icing sugar on top from up high so it looks like snow falling 🙂

On the bottom tier were Christmas Pudding & Redcurrant ‘Verrines’, and sandwiches with the following fillings:

  • Roast beef & horseradish
  • Smoked salmon & cream cheese
  • Turkey & cranberry
  • Ratatoille

The next tier up contained ‘Chocolate Orange Domes’ (they were delicious) and two types of scones: plain and cranberry. The scones were served with Dorset clotted cream and From Dorset with Love lemon curd and strawberry jam.

The top layer consisted of ‘Meringue with Cranberry & Fresh Fruits’ and ‘Apple & Raisin Tart Gourmands’ which are the intricate rose-shaped tarts. I thought they were going to be more style than substance but they were really yummy; in fact one of my favourite things from the whole offering.

For £18 per person, I think the ‘Festive Afternoon Tea’ is pretty reasonable, especially considering the amount of food that comes with it!

If you wish to have more of a boozy celebration, you can opt to upgrade to the ‘Sparkling champagne or Prosecco’ version.

The ‘Festive Afternoon Tea’ is served throughout the Christmas season and can be booked via the Level8IGHT website. I think I might also be tempted to try the regular version in the new year 😉
